My Favorite Beethoven Sonatina
For my students who enjoy playing classical music, I like to start introducing some of the "standard repertoire" as soon as they can read music fairly fluently. Stella was a transfer student and had only learned from method books before studying with me. She had great technique, was a fast learner, and wanted to play more classical music, so I introduced her to this Beethoven Sonatina.
Here she is playing it from memory for the first time. We broke the piece down into sections so that she could learn and memorize it more easily. We discussed the scale passages and incorporated theory by going over the chord progressions to help memorizing. She is doing a great job and will have it ready for the recital in no time!
